Facebook
Wrap Up
Over the last six weeks I have learned a
lot about Facebook that I was not aware of.
In theory Facebook is used to keep in touch with our friends and family.
Also most people thought that it Facebook was mainly used by college students. Take a
closer look and Facebook is actually acquiring a lot of information about us.
What stores, products and foods we like. Facebook has mathematical equations in
the program that counts the choices that we make on Facebook. Facebook has been able to also capitalize on
this by selling the collected data and advertising space that is passed by
friends liking products, stores and then it is posted on their friends walls.
Companies also have Facebook pages for people to get information about products,
services and events.
During the past weeks I have also
learned that people do not always apply safety reasoning when using Facebook.
There are safety settings that people may use so that only people you select
may view your information and page. However people do not always set them. People have posted that they are on vacation
and not coming home. Upon arriving home realize that their home has been broken
into and their belongings stolen.
Now every time I log into Facebook I
will be aware of what I am curiously clicking to view. Being fully aware that people I may not know
could possibly view my information and who my friends are, I will make sure the
safety settings are on. Personally I
have a teen in my home and I will be checking their profile also to ensure all
the safety settings are on.
Facebook is a wonderful tool to keep in
touch with people in our families and friends. Just like every other wonderful
new technology we also have some responsibility to ensure privacy and safety.
The cost is advertising for products and giving new marketing strategy and information
in demographics.
